Jazzenzo, 29-3-2016"You can hear that Honing has absorbed a lot of culture over the years"
Jazzenzo, 29-3-2016
[...] The first part might actually be the best part of the album, although the level of the rest of the album remains remarkably high (..) The album doesn't contain bad parts. I think I can say that this might be Honings best album so far, partly because there isn't forced cross-overs to other genres and mostly because the music fits in the jazzidiom. (..) This is, without a doubt, one of the best Dutch jazzrecords of 2015 [...]

[...] Yet this is the amazement that such a small country produces so many great talents. Saxophonist Yuri Honing is up in distant places a welcome guest and can compete with the best, if there is a hierarchy in music existing. As a tenor saxophonist, he has the luxury of its own finely honed sound. Also includes a large, powerful sound to his vocabulary. [...]

["]..A Desire anyway to make wonderful music. And that has succeeded excellently tonight by Honing and his quartet."
Draai om je oren, 05-11-2015
"Sweet melancholy does have its attraction, if it comes along as credibly and authentically as it does here"
Jazz'n'More, 01-11-2015
"Desire is Honings most personal and without a doubt his best record."
Klassieke Zaken, 01-6-2015
"Desire is captured perfectly on Yuri Honing's new album of the same title. The eight tracks on this album reflect eight different feelings of desire. Some pieces are about pain, some are hopeful and dreamy, and others are more resigned or even peaceful. Renowned for mixing styles, Honing again explores his musical boundaries with moving melodies framed by pop, classical music and early music compositional techniques."
Jazzhalo, 01-6-2015
"The record is atmospheric, deep and easeful. [..]Quite an achievement to be able to capture the concept of 'desire' in music and improvisation like this."
Music Emotion, 01-6-2015
"Desire is an affair of the heart in more ways than one. The CD's inside cover contains a poem entitled "Our Heart" by Joost Zwagerman, inspired by that most vital organ. Zwagerman's rich trawl of adjectives includes intimate, bittersweet, vulnerable and intense —descriptions that equally sum up Honning's haunting, heartfelt music;; music as delicate and as vital as the "fragile fist thumping and pumping" inside each of us. "
AllAboutJazz, 27-5-2015
"Great through talent."
Le Soir, 20-5-2015
"Honing plays gorgeous, varies and streches his show, puts anything bigger and gets you with his long, floating tones in his story full of cravings."
De Standaard, 29-4-2015
"Stick to each of the eight pieces of music of composer Honing, experience the ever changing music, let you fondle by these so wonderful combination of tenor saxophone, piano, double bass and percussion."
Jazznu, 20-4-2015
"Beautiful, lingering compositions, in which Honing can really let his tenor saxophone sing in deep spherical tones."
De Volkskrant, 01-4-2015
"The Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet combines in an impressive way elements from jazz, pop and early music."
Nederlands Dagblad, 27-3-2015
Jazzism, 16-3-2015
"The music is a mix of dreamy and abstract sounds with seductive grooves and catchy melodies."
Mania, 06-3-2015

"From desire to imagination is the jazz with subtile percussion, soft bass and stinging piano work thought out in all its simplicity."
