About the album

This CD boxed set, a retrospective from our focus on composers during the Festival in 2010, is part of a wonderful tradition in the Edition Klavier-Festival Ruhr. With Vol. 26 we are now releasing, for the sixth time in a row, a set of three CD’s with recordings from the previous season. In 2010 we celebrated the 200th birthdays of Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin. To give their respective anniversary celebrations a worthy finishing touch, we now dedicate an entire CD to each one of these two major composers.

Artist(s)

Dennis Russell Davies (conductor)

In his career of over 50 years, Dennis Russel Davies has conducted the most renowned orchestras from North-America and Europe and has also been invited to major festivals and opera houses. As a contemporary music specialist, Davies collaborates with famous composers and directed countless premieres of works by Philipp Glass, Luciano Berio, John Cage and others. He also pays attention to the wider symphonic repertoire, in particular to the works of Anton Bruckner. Also a pianist and chamber musician, his activities show an extensive repertoire from the Baroque to today’s new music that he uses in fearlessly structured programming to successfully challenge and inspire audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. An avid sports fan, especially baseball, and father of six children,...
