About the album

Peter Schärli doesn’t intend for the music he makes to need long explanations. This trio exemplifies his style: three musicians who interact effortlessly and with sensitivity, each contributing their own compositions to the whole. The result is acoustic music of unprecedented transparency, in an instrumental combination that has rarely been heard before: acoustic guitar, piano and trumpet. Despite the complex harmonies, this mix of bossa nova, jazz and pop comes across as wonderfully light and touching. The trio is composed of the extraordinary guitarist Juarez Moreira from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and two Swiss musicians: pianist Hans Feigenwinter, from Basel, with his sense of melody and his brilliant playing technique, and trumpeter Peter Schärli, from Schötz in canton Lucerne, who intones and improvises with an incredible lightness, giving the music its final polish. The interactions, which take off smoothly and find their way back to simplicity, are based on an attitude that also defines Schärli’s view of himself, privately and as a musician: “I’d rather be an unusual average character, than an average unusual character”. And that is exactly how this music, which has no need for great words, sounds.
