Barbara Kennedy en Peter Lockwood voerden enkele van de liederen op dit album voor het eerst uit tijdens een gek feest op Oudjaarsavond. Barbara Kennedy is tegenwoordig een serieuze klassieke zangeres met een reeks van successen in de opera op haar naam. Meneer Lockwood is repetitor bij de Nationale Opera en vormt een zeer succesvol klassiek pianoduo met Julian Reynolds, wat blijkt uit hun albums met operamuziek voor piano vier handen en werken van Saint-Saëns.

Hun uitvoering van deze geweldige klassieke liederen voor het podium was zo verrukkelijk dat besloten werd om ze op te nemen, op een album dat echt anders dan anders is. Het resultaat is een album met geweldige liederen over liefde en gelach dat ongetwijfeld een groot publiek zal aanspreken.

American composer Stephen Sondheim was born on March 22, 1930, in New York City. After early practice at songwriting, his knowledge of musical theater was influenced by master lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, whom served as a mentor. Sondheim's contributions to West Side Story and Gypsyin the 1950s brought him recognition as a rising star of Broadway. Known for the startling complexity of his lyricism and music, his major works for the theater also include A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park With George and Into the Woods.

Kurt Weill

Kurt Weill was a German composer, active from the 1920s in his native country, and in his later years in the United States. He was a leading composer for the stage who was best known for his fruitful collaborations with Bertolt Brecht. With Brecht, he developed productions such as his best-known work The Threepenny Opera, which included the ballad 'Mack the Knife'. Weill held the ideal of writing music that served a socially useful purpose. He also wrote several works for the concert hall. He became a United States citizen on August 27, 1943.
