About the album

The musical content of this CD proves that Christmas inspired composers for many centuries. Of course one may think in terms of a religious feast but Christmas is celebrated also as an important family feast, Santa, reindeer, sleigh and presents included. The result is a pattern-card with texts and melodies from different times and countries.

The order of the numbers 8-21 on this CD is thus arranged that it is most pleasant to the listener in respect of tonality and character of the pieces involved.

By arranging the numbers 1-7, 8-21 and 22-24 we tried to create a more or less chronological order and a successive order in styles.

Weer eens wat anders: kerstmuziek a capella

Quink is a unique ensemble of international reputation. Since its first concerts in 1978 the group ranks among the top a cappella ensembles of the world. Quink's regular members are four professional singers. Depending on the repertoire the group may be extended to a maximum of eight singers.

Quink’s vast repertoire stretches from the Middle Ages to Contemporary Music, thus spanning more than 800 years of musical history! The versatile musicians always strive to authenticity the way they perform the different styles of music. For baroque and romantic repertoire Quink joins forces with instrumental specialists of the relevant era
Quink realized a series of Bach cantatas with instrumental and vocal one-voice-per-part perfomances.

With the Dutch piano duo Leo van Doeselaar and Wyneke Jordans Quink released an album with Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.

Dutch music
For many years now Quink acts as an ambassador for new Dutch music and has performed many successful premieres. In the year 2000 Quink was asked to sing the world premiere of a piece by the Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt during a festival in Vredenburg Concert Hall in Utrecht.
Director Ramon Gieling made a short film with the five singers, based upon this piece. The movie is called “BiBaBo”, with Quink singing and acting. It was premiered during the Netherlands Film Festival in September 2004 in Utrecht.
